While I don't think every piece of graffiti is newsworthy, you have to remember if anything anti-Jew, anti-Mexican/Latino, or anti-Black popped up in this same time, the Fake News was sensationalizing it as proof that Trump was inciting violence and racism. But journalistic fairness and standards would mean you'd have to do the same with anti-Trump messages, so that readers/viewers could understand scale and scope, and that it wasn't just one-sided. Outlets that didn't do that, aren't trying to inform the public, but misinform them.
