Why do I do this? Because I can... and life's too short to surrender to bullies all the time.

Summary:

Q: Why do I do this? A: Because it’s there Life is too short to cave in to ignorance or misinformation. Writing gives me peace. It gives me an excuse to research and question and refine. Teaching others, can teach yourself (if you’re open to questioning everything, and being your own devil’s advocate).

Site • [5 items]- Beliefs - My beliefs stem from trying to balancing conflicting truths: Confucianism, Taoism, Liberalism, Progressivism.
- My Bias (1974) - Everyone is biased, I'm open about mine, so that people can view my stuff through my lens.
- Elephants in the room - Why do I talk about sex, politics, religion, ethics, race, and so on? Because it's there!
- History of this site - I started a hand-coded HTML blog in 1995, then evolved into this (my own CMS built on MediaWiki).

- Beliefs - My beliefs stem from trying to balancing conflicting truths. From Confucianism's duty to fitting in, to Taoisms finding balance. From Classical Liberalism tolerating others, to Progressivism (George Bernard Shaw's), "All progress is made by unreasonable men". The tightrope of life is not in the extremes, nor always in the middle, but knowing which path to take at what time.
- My Bias (1974) - Everyone is biased, I'm open about mine, so that people can decide if I'm right in spite of them, or where I go wrong (if they disagree). It started in 5th grade when I learned early that the School textbooks and teachers were indoctrinating me with lies (spin). So cynical skepticism (what's the other side of the story) was ingrained early, and forms my world view.
- Elephants in the room - Learning to discuss emotionally charged topics makes us better humans and a better society. Friction-inducing discussions allows us to rub against each other, abrade each other, and smooth off the rough edges and learn to tolerate each other and grow. The alternative is a worse society, afraid to offend, and avoiding growth and understanding.
- History of this site - This is the history of how this website evolved -- from simple origins in hand-coded HTML in 1995, to my own content managers, to workpress and now Wikipedia's engine. As well as how this went from a MacAdvocacy page, to the jumble of articles and politics that it had become.

This section is all about me (Ari Sabouni). (If you want more about why, you can read the About section). What is life if it isn't sharing our experiences and perceptions, in the hopes that others can chuckle or learn from them? I learned long ago, that the process of writing and organizing my thoughts is cathartic, and once completed, I can, "let it go". |
