There's a HUGE chasm between supporting adults getting elective surgery, and allowing children to. And lopping off functional body parts to feel better about yourself, is already an ethical grey zone.

Again, I'm libertarian-leaning. Meaning I support adults having control over their body. Even procedures that I don't agree with.

But having tolerance doesn't mean ignoring concerns. People that have gender-dysphoria have a body-image mental-disorder (not unlike an eating disorder). Should we support gastric bypass for anorexics? No. Should we tolerate it? Probably -- but there should be limits and qualifiers.

While the patient should have control of their body, the doctors should not be free to do whatever they want. I know that sounds contradictory, but it is not. A Doctor is generally forbidden by medical ethics to not lop off a patient's functional limb, just because it offends the patient. (There is a rare disorder that wants it). I have no problem with a patient wanting that. But a doctor that would harm others for money, shouldn't be licensed by ethicists. It can still happen, but I wouldn't want to be on any board or hospital that supports it. The pressures don't have to be criminal, they can be civil, regulatory, or others. And that's how I feel about the mutilation of pre-adult children.
