My future College Roommate and I made a deal: he got to drive my car in California all summer, if I got to drive his all winter while going to school in Illinois. He drove mine, and blew it up the last week of summer (another head gasket), so I had to sell it for scrap. The "reciprocal" agreement turned out to be not completely reciprocal... but I did get occasional use of the Opal GT, so I considered it partly mine.
The Opel fell apart due to rust (while Joel/roommate was using it, not me). Basically, the mechanics looked underneath it and condemned it as unsafe to drive as too much was rust.
The car was a small car made by GM, so was basically a cute looking piece of shit. GM had a thing with not wanting to make any competent Sportscars except the Vette. So they made some small sporty cars, but always seemed to equate small with low budget, and put the worst motors in them. While I liked the styling of some of their small cars, and I drove friends or other people's. I never bought a small GM car, because every time I test-drove one, I was disappointed.
