Oh, and they also said that the impact ruptured the tank, but that never happened either -- it was just hitting an overfilled tank without a gas cap that caused the spillage.

But other than lying about everything the user saw, and worded in a way to terrorize owners and vilify GM, it was still crappy journalism. This goes down as one of the epic FakeNews reports of all times.
