French is Flip Flops on key issues like support for Trump, opposition to Gay Marriage, or whatever displeases (or is in the way of advancement) in the leftist publications he is working for. I generally don't mind growth / revision of views. But his flip flops don't smell like that, they feel more like moral sacrifices for career/social advancement.

Opposes Gay Marriage
  • French was openly opposed to Gay Marriage in 2017... then he went to work for leftist magazines and reversed his view in 2022.
  • In August 2017, French was one of several co-authors of the so-called Wikipedia:Nashville Statement, which affirmed "that it is sinful to approve of homosexual immorality or transgenderism and that such approval constitutes an essential departure from Christian faithfulness and witness."[1]
  • In November 2022, French announced that he had "changed his mind" on the legal recognition of same-sex marriage, although stating he was still morally opposed to the matter. He wrote that his "reasoning tracked my lifelong civil libertarian beliefs" and that:[2] "Millions of Americans have formed families and live their lives in deep reliance on Obergefell being good law. It would be profoundly disruptive and unjust to rip out the legal superstructure around which they’ve ordered their lives."
Supporting Donald Trump
  • French in 2016 says he'd vote for Donald Trump if he became the Republican nominee... then he later flipped and said he would not.
  • In January 2016, French said that he would vote for Donald Trump if he became the Republican nominee; he later changed his mind and said he would not vote for Trump.[3][4]
  • TDS suffering Political commentator Bill Kristol, a supporter of the Wikipedia:Stop Trump movement, named French as his choice to run for U.S. President as an independent conservative candidate to defeat presumptive Republican nominee Trump on May 31.[5] The goal was not to get French elected, just divide the Republicans enough that Hillary was a shoe-in.
  • On June 5, French announced that he had considered running, but ultimately decided not to.[6]
