  • In December 1984, a friend who worked at Apple (Micky), and got us the specifications and pre-release software for the 230.4 kbit/s Apple Talk network.
  • Since we didn't have access to the hardware, we reverse-engineered our own using Radio Shack box and RCA cables.
  • We pre-made dozens of cables and boxes, and took them to the first MacWorld Expo in San Francisco (January 1984), where we sold them and met at a Pizza Parlor in China Town with all our Macs and had the first Mac Network Gaming Party.
  • We had used a friends BBS (Bulletin Board) and SIG (Special Interest Group -- like minded people meeting monthly to exchange ideas) as a way to coordinate this.
  • Another Company did a similar thing (later), not sure if they got the idea from us or not, but they made them with Phone Jacks (RJ-11) -- which were less expensive and clicked in more positively (couldn't be pulled out). They made a company around PhoneNet, as alternative to Apple's more expensive AppleTalk connectors.

We played MazeWarz, and other network games. (Later we did Spaceward Ho, when it came out).
