How many guns in America?

From iGeek
Likely about 500M+ guns. Official estimates are way low, assuming high breakage, and not counting others.
200 million known guns in America back in 1990. Then from 1999-2018, there were 292 million gun checks. That 492 Million guns, not counting the decade between 1990-1999, and excluding smuggled, self-made (Ghost Guns), or military + police guns (some of which are lost or stolen). The offical 347 million feels low.

Gary Kleck did the definitive research and found that by 1990, there were 200 million known guns in America. This excludes guns sold to the military, ones sold to foreign governments (but made in the U.S.), guns before 1899, any guns that were made by individuals, or any guns smuggled into the U.S. from other countries.

Since 1999, there were 292 million gun checks.

347 million feels like an under-estimate.
