My Son Hunter (2022)

Nothing makes the left outraged like uncomfortable truths. Is this the truth? It is based on a bunch of fact, but is fictionalized. Less fictionalized than the average Oliver Stone movie, or Michael Moore Documentary, and we've seen the reviewers love the shit outta them. So their problems aren't with the dramatization, but the facts.

Watched "My Son Hunter"... it was fun and actually done better than I thought...

It starts by saying it's a dramatization (fiction), the only thing true are all the facts.

They pause in the movie (break the 4th wall) to talk to the camera, or pop-up bubbles to explain "this is a fact" here and there. Feels a little Deadpool'ish... it's pretty light and does convey a lot of the info behind what's going on.

They had a construct that Hunter loved one of the hookers, and she was figuring it out, and he was explaining things to her -- between the crack pipe, and whiney scenes with Dad. And they kept putting in Joe's famous lines, or little events -- from a very "what likely happened" PoV to tell the story. (That was the story telling part).

Of course, the left called it a conspiracy theory... because the media/left actually colluded together to do what was accused and got caught (making it conspiracy facts)... and because it reflects poorly on the Bidens and the Media. But the majority of their outrage is that they don't get to control the narrative any more.

The story did make cynical assumptions and had a bias. Obviously. This is told from, "let's assume Biden's are guilty, based on all the evidence that shows they are.... now let's tell what all this means"... so it's not neutral or telling you all the ways that this, in theory, could be legit. But it is still less biased than a Michael Moore or Oliver Stone film (which the left loves)... or less spun than the average Netflix Documentary or HBO special. Heck, I've seen worse from Ken Burns. (His FDR crapumentary, or even civil war, which was his best -- left lots of counter-balances out). So it's good for what it is, well paced, and light. Worth the money.

If you want to see leftist bias in media, you just have to look at all the examples of how far off from their reviewers are from their viewers. I use the spread as a predictor of whether I'll like a film. Big spread with audience over critics? I'm going to like it. But big spread with critics over audience? I'll usually side with audience.

Tatometer Summary
x150px My Son Hunter (2022) - Many reviewers refused to review it, and those that did often mocked or disparaged it (some admitting they never watched it first). It was bad, because it spoke truth to power, and they like power.

  • The Guardian: The right wing Hunter Biden movie is for fringe lunatics... an unhinged low-budget drama based less on fact and more on conspiracy theory.
  • The Independent: It’s hard not to shed a small tear for Carano and Fox, who have made their beds and now seem intent on lying in them – feculent, lice-ridden sheets and all.
  • Rolling Stone: The right wing’s obsession with the president’s son has taken the form of a feature film filled with strippers and drugs, but nothing of substance [1]
  • The Daily Beast: Why Putin’s Henchmen Are Dying for This American Movie to Debut [2]
  • The Spectator AU: a film to terrify the White House. Russia laughing at America doesn’t make the contents of the film wrong. [3]
