Nestgate

From iGeek
Google's Nest had microphones their customers didn't know about, and customers didn't like it when they found out.
Failure to communicate: Google (Nest) had their customers didn't know about about (in their security products and smoke detectors), and didn't really tell people (or call it out). Some people were creeped out by having a microphone in their bedrooms and Google not being clear about it (keeping it "secret").

🗒️ Note:
I'm not really creeped out about it, in concept. It's not transmitting audio of everything, as far as I know, more keywords or things they care about. But you kind of have to trust Google not abuse that ability, and a lot of people don't have that trust with them. So we'd never get them.
