Oil Byproducts
Petroleum provides us a modern life (and gasoline). If greenies outlaw gasoline, the demand for Petroleum will NOT change.

What the left can't seem to comprehend (beyond basic economics) is that we had 100 years of pumping toxic waste out of the ground (petroleum) and refining it (distilling it) for fuel (less than half for gasoline). Then rather than throwing away all the byproducts, we learned to use those cheap resources to create many other things that make our modern life possible and wonderful.

A refinery is basically a big still (distillation). You heat to certain temps and the substance you want turns to a gas, and you condense/pressurize it into a liquid form. |

If you outlawed drilling petroleum, you haven't eliminated the demand for goods and services made from petroleum.
Q:So what happens when you have a demand? A: Someone fills it. We can make all these components/compounds synthetically without petroleum. However, virtually all of the alternatives cost MORE energy/time/money and create more pollution -- which is why we aren't using the synthetics to begin with. (If we had better alternatives, we'd use them). So if you took away one supply, they'll find another. And the other is usually worse, which is why we aren't using it now. |
What are the byproducts made?

Before we had cars, we were pumping petroleum for these byproducts, and then we figured out how to use the waste gasoline for something useful. But eliminating demand for gasoline doesn't change the demand for the byproducts, it just increases the costs.
So if the dimwitted "Environmentalists" are successful at destroying gasoline-powered cars (they won't), we'd still have the demand for all those other uses (cosmetics, plastics, wax, lubricants, and asphalt). Thus we'd still have to refine the same amount of petroleum, we'd just cast off the gasoline and keep all the other products, instead of the other way around.
What do you do with the gasoline waste?[edit | edit source]
Well, if its price went down.
So if you have a free market, its demand would go up in the U.S. (people would start using it to power factories, etc., to cut their energy costs). Even if it's not used in cars, it'd still be used because it's cheap, high density energy.
But let's assume the Neiman Marxists won't allow that, and they have fascist control of our economy... so the oil companies just sell it to the 3rd world. It just means the U.S. is less competitive than places that don't have our Democrats/leftists "helping" their economy.
The 3rd world gets cheaper energy, and already has cheaper labor, so now they out-compete us -- create more products using gasoline. (Use it in their cars, power plant, and factories). The only difference is that
- (a) They don't have our environmental policies, so they burn it in far more polluting ways
- (b) Their manufacturing also has less money to be concerned about the environment, so they produce far more pollution per product than we did
- (c) We pollute more since we waste energy (pollute) shipping them the gasoline, and shipping back the products, instead of producing them locally
Thus you didn't change consumption, you just constrained America from using it, and reward place that are much less "green" and clean than we are.
So CO2/Pollution doesn't change, other than getting worse. All you succeeded at doing is making Americans poorer (have to pay more for the same goods, and have fewer opportunities/businesses).
Maybe someday the left will figure out basic economics and the way the world works. But if they did that, they'd go extinct. There's no antidote for knowledge and taking the red-pill.
