12/15/2021 I went to an event (hosted by Kingwood Tea Party) where Dan Crenshaw spoke.
Dan Crenshaw flew in from D.C. and spoke to a few constituents at Los Cucos Mexican Cafe, hosted by the Kingwood Tea Party. He spoke for about 30 minutes, then took questions for about an hour. Then hung out while people came up and engaged.

Timeline

  • Dan Crenshaw came to a Tea Party dinner event and spoke for about 30 minutes and answers questions for another 30... then hung out and answered 1:1 questions for 30 more minutes.
  • Dan entered to a standing ovation, but there's a few people that are frustrated with him over a few issues.

I thought Dan did a great job of explaining himself. And the people upset weren't listening well.

🗒️ Note:
One person got up, started calling Dan all sorts of things, and was quite obnoxious before the mic was getting passed around. Dan was very experienced/cool about responding, and trying to get the guy to engage in what his frustrations were, and what specific issue was there -- so he could talk about it. But the guy was too busy ranting to get to a point and had to be ushered out. I like debate. I like hard questions. But ranting without getting to a question, and not engaging in back and forth? That's like an Italian family reunion, and I had enough of those growing up. I don't give a shit about some chip you're holding onto -- what is the problem here and now. And let the other person respond. Fortunately, it was a couple minute exchange and the rest of the evening was great.

Topics Covered[edit | edit source]

Dan is getting some heat from the far right for a few things, and he addressed them.

  • (a) Red flag laws - after a Florida Shooting, Trump once said something about maybe there could be red-flag laws.

This is a hot button issue on the right (pro-gun) folks.

in NDAA — he explained it as follows. Both sides agree that the red flag laws weren’t going to stay in there, and were getting pulled out. So they voted for it to move it forward, and when it passed, they were taken out. So it was not a vote for Red Flag laws.

(b) He was getting heat for national database on vaccines (Immunization Infrastructure Modernization Act, which would fund a federal vax database) — he pointed out that it did the opposite. There was already a national and state databases — but they only count number of vaccines, not who gets them. (E.g. the local CVS says “we gave out 60 vaccines today”, they don’t report who got them or not). That’s been in effect for like 50 years. The IIMA said we’ll continue funding for that, but it put in MORE restrictions on not reporting any PII. (This was to limit moves that California or NY was going to try to do). People reported it as the opposite, as since it’s funding a national database, that it was to undermine patient privacy.

(c) he didn’t vote against certifying the election. He pointed out that how process isn’t really in the constitution, and it ceremonial and does nothing. So a display that would alienate those he needed to work with, that wouldn’t do anything, was a waste of time. Pence was NEVER going to stop the election, he probably wouldn’t have had the authority if he tried.
