Reagan was vilified in his lifetime, but History remembers him fonder. At least for those that can fairly weigh his accomplishments. But man, the left hated the shit out of him and his supporters, and were as irrational as they are towards Bush, Trump. (And it's not like they treated Nixon any better).
Examples of left's hate of Reagan[edit | edit source]

More on Reagan:
- Hating Reagan - The NYT hated Reagan for calling the USSR the "Evil Empire" and speaking truth to power (and inspiring to dissidents like Natan Sharansky). Reporters like Anthony Lewis called him primitive, simplistic and crude. Shhh, don't mention the Gulags and mass murder. The Times invented/promoted false narratives about Reagan being a racist, stupid, or hating gays (despite evidence to the contrary).
- Knowing things that aren't so - Ronald Reagan delivered a speech on television that contained a quote, "Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, it's just that they know so much that isn’t so!"
- Reagan emptied mental institutions and caused homeless crisis - "Reagan did it" is the TDS of the 1980s. Like a persistent myth is that Reagan shut down/emptied the mental institutions and that's why California has homelessness problems. Like most things the left believes, it's utter bullshit. That trend started in the 50s, institutions had halved populations before he won office, and he didn't change policies or trends.
- Reaganomics - Reagan cut taxes in 1982 and 1986, which resulted in (a) federal revenues skyrocketing (from $517 billion in 1980 to more than $1 trillion in 1990 (+28% inflation adjusted dollars)) (b) real GDP went from 3.2% avg in Carters term, to 4.5% (avg or final) over Regan's 6 years (post tax cut). (c) inflation dropped from ≈13% to ≈5%.
- Trump Derangement Syndrome - TDS is a malady that effects gullible rubes who believe Democrats, the Media, or the establishment (deep state). Basically, it's the ideas that Trump was uniquely caustic, dishonest, evil, etc... just not as much so as the average democrat, and half the Republicans. While he's bombastic, it's usually in response to the other sides dishonest bombasity.
