The Lost City (2022)
This Saturday popcorn film throwback adventure rom-com is cheesier than Cheetos dipped in parmesan fondue, but it works.

Reclusive author (Loretta Sage / Sandra Bullock) writes about exotic places in her popular adventure novels that feature a handsome cover model named Alan (Channing Tatum). Loretta gets kidnapped while on her latest book tour by an eccentric billionaire who hopes she can lead him to an ancient city's lost treasure from her latest story. Determined to prove he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books, Alan sets off to rescue her. If names like Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, and that little intro don't turn you off, then you'll be thoroughly entertained.
This throwback adventure rom-com is cheesier than Cheetos dipped in parmesan fondue, but it works. Full of one-liners, clichés, and bad setups, that all mock the genre, Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum (with a side of Brad Pitt) do a rumble in the jungle: completely predictable, but damn funny anyway. If you want a Saturday popcorn film to remember what paying $22 for a hotdog, popcorn and a large coke felt like -- and you like this genre, it's definitely worth seeing.
It got 75/84 on Rotten Tomatoes, so it seems popular enough with reviewers and viewers. Not deep, and don't go in expecting too much... but for getting back into movies post-COVID? It's Romancing the Stone for the 2020's.
