After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, “Maverick” (Tom Cruise) the sequel was released. The plot was goofy, going to take an over-the-hill fighter Pilot as trainer for an attack that only he is uniquely qualified for... and they're going to use the Navy instead of to superior Airforce craft why? Oh, and the need to put 2 in the 10 ring, after a series of canyon manuevers. And one of the only pilots qualified for the mission is the son of “Goose”? Then the mission goes full silly. It's all delicious silly escapism that was the ultimate weekend popcorn flick, with throwbacks to the 80s.
Look you don't watch this for the believability, just flight scenes and memories of the original, or for Cruz revisiting the role -- and it delivers perfectly on all that. So I enjoyed it, it made my wife very happy, and that made me happy. It was a worthy sequel.
