Wisdom
From iGeek
Wisdom is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.
~ Aristotle Sabouni |
I know a lot of very intelligent people. I know a lot of wise people. The intersection doesn't have as much overlap as one might hope. In fact, intelligence (and good grades, peer recognition, etc) fluffs the ego, and the ego gets in the way of Wisdom. People project knowing a lot about one thing, with knowing a lot about other things that they know little/nothing about. Wisdom, like science, is about skepticism, humility, doubt. Intelligence is fertilizer for the ego weed that chokes out self-doubt and questioning.

Eastern |
---|
These are just the basic philosophies of the east, or at least ones that I took from Martial Arts and influenced me, and the ways I look at things. There are many perspectives into the same concepts. Two different people doing an artistic representation of an object; using different mediums, skills, and from different points of view, may believe the same core concepts, but the expression may be quite different. |
Government |
---|
These are my ramblings about the philosophy of Government. These are ideals. Pragmatically, we are forced to accept a little bit of wrong, and life is more gray than black and white... but we should glance at the ideals to understand how far we are willing to compromise on them. Read this with that balance in mind. |
Humor |
---|
These are some humorous stories, jokes, or allegories. Humor is a window into someone's soul... and here's a glipse into mine. |
Isms |
---|
Preconceived (usually unfavorable) classification of another person based on that person's perceived political affiliation, sex, gender, beliefs, values, social class, age, disability, religion, sexuality, race, ethnicity, language, nationality, complexion, beauty, height, occupation, wealth, education, criminality, sport-team affiliation, music tastes or other personal characteristics. |
Issues |
---|
Issues that people fight over. Some are transitory, like banning plastic straws (no one will care in a few years). Others are forever, like Homelessness (it can't be fixed and still have freedom or respect for human life). |
Memes |
---|
Memes aren't fair, they are cheap shots at the other side. They are also a litmus test: laugh, cry, get angry... what people post, and how they react, says a lot. |
Philosophy |
---|
Love of wisdom... or at least the study of fundamental questions, like existence, reason, knowledge, values, mind, self, human nature, and so on. Being named after one of the most important philosophers, and being a naturally curious and introspective person, has always made philosophy an area of interest to me. |
Politics |
---|
The ability to persuade or force others in getting what you want. "How to make friends and influence people"... or at least terrorize your enemies/opponents into giving you what you want. |
Quotes |
---|
Quotations are almost all misattributed. Yes, often the correct person said it... but they weren't the first to think it, or maybe even say it, they're just the person who gets credit... and we quote them because it affirms what believe. |
Religion |
---|
Religion is a self-fulfilling prophecy. What we choose to have faith in, both defines us, and is a reflection of us. If we believe in a vengeful God, we are likely a vengeful person. If we believe in a forgiving God, we are likely trying to be a forgiving person. You are what you do... and you do what you believe. |
Skepticism |
---|
Skepticism is the best of the isms. It is critical thinking, it is science (the scientific method), and vise versa. Question everything, doubt what you're told, look for the other side of the story, or as Ronald Reagan put the Russian proverb, "doveryai no proveryai" (Trust but verify). If someone is not skeptical they're not a rational person. |
Snowflakes |
---|
This is anti-PC, anti-Woke, and anti-Karen articles... what is and isn't an ism (Racism, Sexism, Gender'ism, and so on). And how the left uses intersectional bullshit, vandalism, or general douchebaggery, to suppress free speech in America. The clueful know that oppressing people's freedom of expression makes them resentful and causes more societal friction than it helps, but no one has accused the far-left snowflakes of being overly clueful. |
Thought |
---|
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. That's why I write about it (at length) instead. Hey, if you don't care about what other people think about you, it's easier. |
