WaPo advocates for composting books that offend it. Democracy dies in the darkness... after their book burning?

Reminiscent of the Bonfire of the Vanities (where the Church burned things that offended it), WaPo advocates for composting books that offend it. Their slogan is where Democracy dies in the darkness (after the bonfire)... and where the editorial board is so full of groupthink that nobody questioned whether telling people to compost books you disagree with was a good idea? I wonder what other cultures have burned/destroyed books and had cultural revolutions, and how they turned out? Certainly no one at WaPo was self aware to ask or answer that question. Either way, they expose their true colors not by refuting the other side, but by advocating vandalizing their material so they don't even have to argue against it -- which says everything you need to know about their position on hearing both sides.

I'm not offended. Don't really care. It helps the author if you know econ 101 (scarcity increases value -- and if anything this effort would increase the demand). So they're so busy shooting themselves in the face to teach the other guy a lesson, they haven't realized that the authors they irrationally hate, would be all for this. |
