This is a California institution, famous for being fresh, clean, cheap, and tasty. Their burgers are very good, but pretty plain and classic fast-food. Not much variety, even with the secret menu. It has such a cult-like following, that I feel it is over-rated. But when one is close, I did find myself going there, and if I don't have a Whataburger close, I miss it.

They are privately owned, and all about the factory-line burger experience. All burgers (and ingredients) will meet their quality standards, they have one of the most limited menus (even with the secret menu -- e.g. Animal Style: which is mostly about grilling it in the onions and thousand island dressing). The only choice for vegetarians is grilled cheese (and fries). They are a great-tasting classic fast-food burger, and the best prices/value. And they can get people through very quickly, despite the regularly long lines. For me, the fries are uncooked, the shakes/malts are great, but if you want anything else (like a different condiment or variety of burger style), or don't like thousand island dressing, you're going to be out of luck. If you love a plain hamburger/cheeseburger with thousand island dressing, this burger is one of the best.
