That misinfo came from the NYT, CDC, FDA, WHO, and so on.

The New York Times was living up to their all propaganda narrative with an article headlined, "One Year, 400,000 Coronavirus Deaths: How The U.S. Guaranteed Its Own Failure" and the subhead blaming Orangeman, "After the White House declined to pursue a unified national strategy, governors faced off against lobbyists, health experts and a restless public consumed by misinformation." Their points were:

  • Americans kept questioning conflicting expert opinions
  • Local governments wallowed in a cesspool of distrust and incompetence
  • The reason Operation Warp Speed and the Vaccine wasn't starting as well as it could have, was because there was no national policy

Of course like most progressives, they get it backwards. (Without understanding the past or present, their ideas for the future are doomed). The facts are that:

  • Questioning authorities is called Scientific skepticism. And there is more questioning when the experts flip-flop and can't explain why. (Like they flipped on efficacy of lockdowns, masks, told people there would be no vaccines this year, that hydroxychloroquine did or didn't work, that it was/wasn't spread by the asymptomatic, that the death rate was 20x what it actually was, they cooked the books on how many have it or died from it instead of just with it, and so on).
  • If you think there was distrust at the local level, with politicians they know -- imagine how much MORE distrust their would have been from a top-down Washington Bureaucrats. Local works better in more places than it works poorly -- and where it failed poorly was generally Democrat run places.
  • Operation Warp Speed did offer federal guidelines back in October... the places that failed the worst were Blue States that decided they knew best. Red States like Texas, South Dakota, etc., were performing wonderfully from the start. The problem wasn't that the Fed didn't run it, it's that Democrats run things poorly.

More[edit | edit source]

The article whines about:

  • The problem was the rush to re-open... um which is why the places that remained locked down the longest and re-locked down the fastest got it the worst. Like California. Does that make sense?
  • Science was sidelined at every level of government... especially the CDC and FDA that was mostly Obama appointees. Where people like Faucci ignored the science for politics. But they want to imply that it was only the other side that ignored the science, not their side that politicized it. They whine about Florida, and ignored it outperformed the biggest science followers in California and New York.
  • They still repeat the masks help despite a lack of compelling scientific evidence. They lie and claim that South Dakota was the worst performing in the nation. Nope, New York, California and many blue states own that distinction (with Arkansas the outlier).

They repeat the delusion that there was a second summer peak... kinda but not. What happened is that weather impacts how people behave. In the South, they often go indoors more in summer because it's too damn hot (which is more how other place behave in Winter/Fall) -- so the surge wasn't because of re-opening -- which happened 4 months before the surge hit. It was because they started going inside more. But again, basic science is beyond NYT.

Conclusion[edit | edit source]

The left tries to rewrite history when it doesn't fit their narrative (which is almost always), and this NYT piece is par for the course. They try to explain the failures of Blue States as the fault of a lack of Federal intervention... and the failure of Red States as poor use of discretion -- while ignoring that the Red States generally outperformed the Blue ones. More than that, the red areas of states dramatically outperformed the blue. So a one-size-fits all federal solution, wouldn't work well -- because we are not one people or one geography/climate where one solution can work. We allow a lot of little test beds so we can learn what works best by trial and error. And what we learned, is if you want to fuck it up, put Democrats in control of it. But the NYT is too dim or dishonest to point any of that out -- thus they're hand waiving and finger pointing. The worst Governor in America (Cuomo) didn't do anything wrong... look over there, it's all Florida's fault that they had a surge when New Yorkers fled New York to Florida.
