You can have religious liberty, or a Democrat controlled government, but California Bill 2943 shows, not both.

You can have religious liberty, or a Democrat controlled government, but as California Assembly Bill 2943 shows, not both. It says no church or individual can practice "conversion therapy", or "pray the gay away". While I don't think those are useful, in a country with religious liberty, you don't outlaw stupid things just because you don't agree.

Fake Fact Checkers like Snopes/FactCheck shoudld do their jobs and report the facts, instead of doing mental gymnastics to defend Democrats from themselves.

California Assembly Bill 2943 is an intrusion on liberty and free speech.

Basically, it says no church or individual can practice "conversion therapy", or pray the gay away, or convince people who are gay, to try hetero-lifestyles.

While I don't think that kind of program is likely to be effective or a good use of resources, a poorly written bill that's designed to outlaw the effort is even dumber.

As is too common, the opponents of Democrats were telling the truth, and the denials of Democrats were false -- and the "Fact Checkers" didn't take the side of the facts.

Quoting the intent of the author (as a defense) is kind of irrelevant to the point -- what matters is what would the outcome be, and how could the most aggressive DA's interpret it, and harass people? That defines the law, not the authors good intentions.

The good news is that for now, it appears the law status is "Died on inactive file" (and it was amended a few times before that happened: to get it more in line with what the authors were promising). But the facts are still what it was trying to do, and how dishonest or incompetent fact checkers were failing to do their job.
