Good thing these places had strict gun control, or someone might have gotten hurt.
- It turns out that guns are actually a fairly ineffective tool on committing mass casualties: loud, draw attention, give people warning to run-away, requires line-of-site.
- Assuming anyone around has a gun and can engage the shooter, the casualties are lessened.
- However, if individuals aren't allowed to defend themselves or the public, then shooting sprees can go on for an hour and 12 minutes, like in the Norway (or many hours like Germany, China). Saving lives is about response times, and the police are always further away that local folks (with conceal and carry permits): so more usually die waiting for the cops than when civilians have a chance to defend their fellow man.
- Forcing bad guys to use better means of doing mass damage may be the goal of the anti-liberty left, I'd prefer if we focused on the criminality, and not the tool -- the latter is divisive, distracting, doesn't get anywhere but harming innocents, and increases the body count. Look at how many globally were killed in places that were police states with guns virtually banned.
- Most of the biggest mass murders were in countries with much stricter gun-control laws than our own, so what did we learn?
The reason politicians focus on the wrong things? Either they're ignorant or they know the facts and are doing it intentionally. In the latter case, the reasoning can best be described as, if you fix/help problems, you can't campaign on fixing them in the future. So the gun-controllers exist to perpetuate fake solutions (while people die), in order to get money and attention.
