Canada

Canada is the polite little Socialist parasite above America, globally irrelevant if not for the U.S. market.
Canada is a little British Colony without the wisdom (or desire for freedom) to revolt. Canadians are mostly nice, often funny, and they can rule their little Socialist utopia how they see fit. I do like them. But from a freedom-loving American's PoV, it's like a suburb of Seattle, slowly devolving into Shanghai's puppet of the Great White North, eh.

Cost[edit | edit source]

  • Canada has more expensive everything compared to the U.S.: Airfare, phone service, groceries, cars, and so on -- the reason is taxes, tariffs, regulations, and other things that may have some value -- but they do not increase freedom.
  • Canada has government-granted monopolies on Internet, cell phones, cable, power, and so on.
  • Education : Canada is more GPA (compliance/bureaucracy) focused, in the U.S. they can take other things into account, creativity, accomplishment, or just ability and willingness to pay. Private education is a sign of freedom and a free market. Government-only (or mostly) is a sign of less.
  • Smoking: I don't smoke, but banning it nationally isn't what liberty looks like
  • No constitutionally recognized rights, more just Parlamentary granted privileges (that can be revoked)

Taxes[edit | edit source]

You're only as free (economically) as your tax basis (that's how much a slave to the state you are. If more of what you make goes to the government (in Taxes) than yourself, then you're more slave than a freeman. In Canada, you're like 75% slave assuming you're a top earner/spender, and you look at the layed taxes and total costs.

  • Top income taxes are 33% (national) + 15-25% for your Provence ≈53% max
  • + 5% GST (VAT) on almost every good or service you buy + 0-10% for your province +10% Luxury Tax on some items ≈25% max
  • + 38% Corporate Tax + 3-15% Provincial tax ≈53%
    • if you own a corporation, then you pay that on top...
    • if you work for a corporation or bought a good or service for one, then they paid that tax for you, before paying you or selling you the good/service. Meaning the tax is hidden, but it was paid by the consumer/investor/employee

Laws[edit | edit source]

A law/regulation is usually used to restrict what you can do. It's the point where guys with guns will steal your property, liberty or life if you don't comply. So what aren't you free to do in Canada? Well, they have a Canadian Charter which is sort of like the Bill of Rights, except that they can more easily change it, or suspend it, and it has more exceptions and loopholes. So practically, there are some limits -- but also there are less protections for individuals as they are less strict about putting the individual above the group/state and it is easier to change/amend or re-imagine those rights away (partially or in whole).

  • 1A / Free Speech/Religion: In Canada, you can be imprisoned for "Hate speech". They arrested people for attending church wrong, or for expressing disatisfaction with COVID restrictions. The 1A wasn't created for speech government agrees with.
  • 2A / Right of Self Defense: In Canada, you can only have the guns that government wants to allow you -- you have no rights, just permissions. When only cops have guns, you live in a police state.
  • 4A (Privacy/Not to be Searched) - There's no overarching right to NOT be searched in Canada -- they will follow policies and procedures not to do it without probable cause, but they can change procedures when they want, and there's nothing to stop them.
  • 5A (Remain Silent) - Nothing like Miranda rights (right to an attorney). You do have a right to remain silent.
  • 9/10A (State Sovereignty) - there are few limits on federal overreach
  • Separation of powers - Parliamentary systems don't have as good of separation of powers to protect individuals against the ruling party. In practice, that their governments are usually run by the coalition, they often have some compromises required to limit absolute power by one party... but there are less protections agaist tyranny of the majority or the few, especially when one party gets control.
  • COVID - you need to look no further than how they handled COVID restrictions, putting people under house arrest, despite no evidence that they had a disease and were a threat to others. The way they limited protests, assaulted those who wouldn't comply. To see how free you aren't in Canada.

Canadian Healthcare[edit source]

           Main article: Canadian Healthcare

  • Canadian healthcare is mediocre if you're in a major city (good political access) and you have something minor that can wait it's turn. Something serious, odd, or you're in a less politically influential area? You can flee to U.S. or suffer/die in line.
  • For "Free" healthcare, the average Canadian family spends $7,000/person covered.
  • 3% of all Canadians are in healthcare line at any given time. Delayed/rationed healthcare is denied healhcare: it turns minor maladies into irreversible disabilities or causes early death. However, since they don't have a political cost, are rarely reported, those deaths/suffering literally don't count.
    • If you need to see a specialist, they waited an AVERAGE of 21.2 weeks to receive treatment AFTER waiting to be referred by their general practitioner. Complex medical issues have an AVERAGE wait for 33 weeks, orthopedic surgery is 41 weeks (outliers are much longer). One Ontario patient had to wait 4 1/2 years to see a neurologist, then wait for diagnostic test (11 weeks for an MRI that is same-day in U.S.) You often lie in line, or die of a malady that could have been treated if caught earlier.
  • Look to COVID. Canada has about 1/10th the ventilators/capita as the U.S. If the pandemic had gone as fast/bad as the doomsayers predicted, many more Canadians would have died to their healthcare than the U.S. It took Canada longer to get vaccines rolled out than the U.S. And the only reason they got them that fast, was because many could either use American developed vaccines and/or drive the ≈100 miles to the U.S. to get vaccinated. Canadian Trade[edit source]

           Main article: Canadian Trade
CanadianTarriffs.png
  • Canada had unfair trade practices with the U.S. Trump had enough and said either more open (Free) trade, or reciprocal tariffs (fair Trade). Trudeau tantrum'd because he wanted unfair trade in his advantage (tariffs on American goods/services but none back).
  • Trudeau made a stink behind Trump's back at the G7 summit, but never to the larger man's face: because that's the kind of man Justin is, and Canada is for putting him in power.
  • The FakeNews (NYT, WaPo, Canadian Press) took the anti-American (anti-Trump) position and defended Canada (and tried to start a boycott of American goods), even though Canada was using their preferred trading status to pass through Chinese goods/steel/etc. to get around the U.S. tariffs on China.
  • Trump was able to renegotiate NAFTA and replace it with the less unfair USMCA, which was to America's benefit, and the whole thing went away.

Trucker Protest[edit source]

           Main article: Canada/Trucker Protest
TrudeauDuel.jpeg
To see what a people's mettle is, look at how they treat their minority (ideologically).
  • COVID was used as an excuse by the authoritarians to create absurd and unscientific mandates on masks, vaccines, lockdowns -- and punish/censor anyone that disagreed or offered facts that didn't agree with the poltiics.
  • After 2 years, mostly vaccinated truckers protested vaccine mandates and did a small convoy to the capitol to complain -- but it snowballed into many miles of truckers that were tired of the bullshit.
  • Instead of listening to them, Trudeau hid from them and refused to hear their complaints. Which meant they gridlocked the city/border until they got an airing of grievances.
  • At the politicians urging the state media lied like they were CNN, and said the truckers were violent/racists and that what's this was about. Then Trudeau used that to declare Martial Law, curfew them, steal their bank accounts and licenses to work, arrest them, and turn law abiding citizens into penniless criminals (and victims of the state) for exercising freedom of expression.

Tim Hortons
2018.05.17 - A woman in Canada was denied access to using the restroom at a Tim Hortons and goes angry chimpanzee. She dropped her pants, took a dump on the floor, threw it at the employees that denied her access, then grabbed some napkins to wipe her ass, and threw those too, then left (and was arrested in the parking lot).
Canadian Immigration
Canada has a lot more immigration restrictions than the U.S. does. This is critical to remember whenever someone (especially Canadians) are criticizing us for our immigration policies. Canadians or leftist Americans (and their Press) may be ignorant, or have double standards, but we should recognize that hypocrisy for what it is.
Crime-Murder
USvCanada.jpg
Canada was passing gun control in the 50s, 60s and 70s, and their gun murders continued to climb. Then in the 80s, 90s and 2000's they dropped (never to pre-gun control levels) -- and they only dropped at about the same rate that the U.S. did... during the same time the U.S. was repealing gun control laws (including assault weapon bans). If you can have the same result without taking away liberty, I'd opt for that.
