California Incompetence
From iGeek
Incompetent and sanctimonious is a heady mix that makes California one miserable place to live your life.
~ Aristotle Sabouni |
Mistakes are part of humanity. Mistakes that you refuse to consider or fix? Those are authoritarian ego trying to make one of the prettiest states in a dystopian gulag.
Facts[edit | edit source]
- GDPR - Europe hates tech companies so the EU passed a poorly written law (GDPR) that tries to protect consumer privacy in all the wrong ways. The only thing that could make it worse was if instead of complying with one standard, tech companies had fragmented and conflicting ones. So California passed their own with that in mind. The idea isn't bad, the implementation is. [1]
- Hunting - It's illegal to hunt any animal from a moving vehicle, unless you're disabled, or you're in a boat under manual power, or you're hunting whales (but those are illegal to hunt). [2]
- 2016.09.19 Reduce Cow Farts - While there's no method to control how much cows fart, California passed a law (SB 1383) that requires farmers to do exactly that (by 40%). Virtue signaling stupidity: you must do something, for a short term pollutant that has no real impact to anyone more than 10' away.
- 2017.10.06 Knowingly exposing someone to HIV is not a crime - Because they didn't want gays to feel bad about having HIV, they de-criminalized knowingly hiding that you have it and exposing others (by hiding it from a partner and going raw dog, or donating blood/tissue). (SB 239)
- 2019.02.08 San Rafael Bridge Care - The San Rafael Bridge in the Bay Area is literally falling apart (large chunks of concrete falling on the deck below), while they're wasting $50M on a dedicated bike lane that virtually nobody will use. The Democrats want to increase traffic problems, so they can then ask for more money to fix it.
- 2020.01.22 Oakland to ban tenant background checks - To show how woke and brain-dead they are (same thing), Oakland is banning landlords from running background checks on potential tenants. Of course if they get a bad tenant that does criminal activity or harms other tenants, they'll blame the landlord for not getting rid of them: while rent control laws forbid (or make it near impossible) from getting rid of bad tenants.
- Bay Bridge Boondoggle - The bay bridge is a metaphor for San Francisco. The Golden Gate was built privately and under budget for $35M ($1.2B in today's dollars), one span of the Bay Bridge needed a retrofit. It was run by the city and came in late, and over budget at $6.4B, has metallurgy issues. All show, but we could have built 4 other bridges for the price.
- California High Speed Rail Boondoggle - The answer for every program is "compared to what?" There are so many problems that the $100B in wasted funds could have helped (Water, Traffic, Power, etc), but they wasted it on transportation that was better served with limo-busses or planes. But Democrats and their allies got rich picking the public's pocket for something that never was going to get built, and would have been a drain if it had.
- California IPOs - California noticing the obvious; that anti-Business practices are going to leave a mark (on their bottom line). Now one year is not a trend, but it is the first thing to wake them up to a trend that's been happening with people voting with their feet. In this case, 2022 IPO's are 1/9th of 2021, they're not down in Texas, and that's going to impact tax revenue.
- California Notary - My wife spent like $500 (and a few days in class) getting her notary. Well, sorta. She spent that to get trained, passed the test, and go everything she needed. She was blocked by the County Recorder, for no good reason but to exert power, because that's what Bureaucrats do in California. No accountability.
- California Water Crisis - California's water drought has nothing to do with rain, and everything to do with the failure of government. Cal captures 1% of the water, then since 2007 flushes 46% of that into the ocean for "environmental purposes" (a baitfish the delta smelt), 43% goes to farming, 11% goes to urban areas. When there's a problem they raise the cost of water and punish the 11%: because that's where the money is.
- California asks why gas prices are so high - Newsome and pawn whines about why California gas prices are so high, and Valero exec answers him in glorious detail. Telling them to break out a mirror, and explain why they think taxes, regulations, destroying refining, demanding custom blends, and the stiffest environmental regulations wouldn't get passed on to customers?
- LAX Rideshare Policy - California banned Uber/Lyft from curbside pickups under the false premise that this would reduce congestion (really it was because the Taxi lobby buys Democrats). The completely predictable results were hour long waits and Carmageddon. Virtually everyone warned them that it would happen.
- Lie of Averages - This is a math trick often used by politicians (esp. left) to delude their followers, into thinking something is the opposite of what it is. For example: "California taxes are lower than other places", or "administration costs on Medicare is lower than private healthcare"... in percent. In absolute dollars (per case)? They'd much greater.
- Power Reliability - Texas has its first major blackout in 50 years (2.8M customers), due to a freak storm, failing wind power, a nuclear reactor having to be shut down, and poor planning. California has yearly failures that impact more people, and the national grid has collapsed on far larger scale a half dozen times. But the progressive mock Texas.
- Prop D - This is a vacancy tax that penalizes landlords for the inability to find tenants for their storefronts after the city has made it harder to find tenants for their storefronts. If you want to know why businesses flee the state, and why the rest of the nation thinks that SF is a city of fascist morons, look no further than the Prop D.
- Red or Blue Murder - Anyone who has glanced at whether Republicans/Democrats are softer on crime, or have the worst murder rates knows it's blue. Since Democrats can't win discussing facts, they lie; create a fake study, quote the study, and know that their base won't bother to look at the underlying facts. Go team blue! Rah, rah, more murder! Woo hoo! The rest of us? We can read.
- San Francisco: Parking Signs - In typical California (Bay Area) fashion, if there's a right way and wrong way to do something, they'll inevitably figure out a new and even more wrong way to do something. Adding parking signs that you can't see, but can kill you, "traffic cooling" (removing lanes), and reducing parking, for pedestrian lane expansion that wasn't needed.
- Sanctuary State Backlash - Californians (who supported this), lost their right to ever complain about state overreach again. California arrogantly tried to proclaim that federal immigration law, doesn't apply to them -- and anyone in the state that complies with the federal law, will be victimized by the government of the state.
- The Dating Game Killer - Rodney James Alcala (born Rodrigo Jacques Alcala Buquor) was called "The Dating Game Killer" because he was a contestant on the TV Show the Dating Game (and won) during the middle of being a fugitive and on a murder spree. Kills, works for Roman Polanski, goes on the Dating Game, wins... and then kills a few more girls.
